Researchers and project partners from across Europe and Chile have come together to share progress, strengthen collaboration and plan the next phase of SAFESEA’s work to better understand and respond to ocean acidification.
The meeting brought together scientists, stakeholders and project partners working across the SAFESEA programme. Over several days, participants shared the latest research developments and explored how new knowledge can help address the growing challenges facing marine ecosystems and coastal communities.

Ocean acidification does not happen in isolation. It interacts with other pressures, including ocean warming, deoxygenation and changing environmental conditions. Understanding these combined impacts is a key part of SAFESEA’s work.


During the meeting, partners discussed progress across the project’s interconnected work packages, from improving observations and monitoring to understanding biological responses, developing models and assessing potential risks.


The discussions also focused on how scientific knowledge can be made more accessible and useful for the people and organisations making decisions about the ocean.

Looking ahead


The next phase of the project will build on this collaborative work, with partners continuing to develop new observations, research approaches and tools to support a better understanding of ocean acidification.
By connecting science with stakeholder knowledge and real-world needs, SAFESEA aims to help develop the evidence needed to support healthier, more resilient marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.
